Off the Shelf

The Art of Luke Chueh
Bearing the Unbearable
Publisher: Titan Books

We've really got into Luke's art over the last few years and as luck would have it we managed to hook up an interview with him about a year ago. At that time we thought his work output was high and finally this long awaited, fully illustrated book of Mr Chuehs hits the shelves!

With lovely crisp images and a bit of text to get your teeth into, this title has been long overdue in our opinion. The contents takes us from Intro to 2003 and through the years to 2009. Pictures speak louder than words or so the olde saying goes and this is how it comes across, a positive bounty of imagery which records the diverse products of Luke's work. His work not only adorns the usual canvases and prints but also CD/DVD covers, skateboards, toys, t shirts, iPhone, iPod, and laptop skins.

We quote from the book:
"Like a cuddly Trogen Horse, Chueh's work is pretty on the outside but nice and macabre on the inside" so says Entertainment Weekly.

"Employing minimal colour schemes, simple animal characters and a seemingly endless list of ill-fated situations, Chueh stylistically balances cute with brute, walking the fine line between comedy and tragedy"

As far as we are concerned this publication is far from unbearable, it's truly a shining star in a hard cover and a joy to have in our library collection.

Let's have a flick through then...
