Skateistan UK Book Release
In association with HUCK
Date: Thursday, July 26th
Time: 19:00 - 22:00
Dear RDC Readers
Skateistan UK is proud to present The Tale of Skateboarding in Afghanistan. Come to this unique event and be one of the first people in the UK to see Skateistan's newly released book. Skateistan founder Oliver Percovich will also be there to talk about the history and future of Skateistan.
What is it like to grow up working on the streets in a warzone, spending the first 15 years of your life pretending to be a boy? How does it feel to be one of the first ever skateboarders in a country, and at the same time a girl in a conservative Muslim society? In a nation divided by ethnicity and gender, how does art, education and skateboarding create change?
This will be your first chance in the UK to check out and buy the book, entitled Skateistan: The Tale of Skateboarding in Afghanistan. Even better, 100% of book proceeds will go directly to Skateistan.
About the Book:
Skateistan: The Tale of Skateboarding in Afghanistan shares the strange and beautiful intersection of traditional Afghan society and a new generation of Afghan skateboarders and artists. Through a balance of words and photographs, the book tells the tale of ‘Skateistan’, which since 2007 has taught skateboarding and creative arts to girls and boys in Kabul, Afghanistan.
