Hang Outs... Greek Street, London
The Outsiders Presents The Artwork of Emory Douglas:
19th August - 10th September 2011, Monday - Saturday 11am - 7 pm
Emory Douglas is a pivotal figure in the development of political graphic art. Appointed 'Minister for Culture' for the Black Panthers in 1967, he became the in-house illustrator for the quasi-revolutionary civil rights movement's eponymous newspaper. Douglas' instantly recognisable graphics filled the incendiary journal and would form its back page 'paste up' propaganda poster.
It's a jam packed exhibition, complete with videos, Black Panther newspapers, a brand new exclusive print, a book signing and 90 minute talk by Emory Douglas, as well as 15 prints of iconic images from the late 60s, 70s to 2010.
Emory Douglas will be holding a talk on Friday 19th August at the gallery. We will be releasing more details on how to RSVP for this event at the beginning of next week.
