Fistrol Beach, UK

On a Roll at the Boardmasters

The official first day of the Relentless Energy Drink Boardmasters Festival in association with Vans kicked things off in customary style. The Surf contest has whittled down to the remaining few with Felipe Toledo and 2008 Wiggoly Dantas entering the final stages with form on their side.

Just up from the beach in the Vans Summer Sessions area the street course and ramp was opened up to the public with skate jams taking place in each.  A couple of pros snuck their way on and clearly have some tricks up their sleeves for the pro skate contests.

Gary & the Minefields and The Heartbreaks provided the audio backdrop for the surf and skate action playing a perfect accompaniment from the Beach Bar daytime session

The Davidoff Coolwater Flowrider is a most welcome new addition to the Fistral site, with an endless stream of enthusiasts dying to get in on the standing wave action.

The day ended with the highly anticipated opening night of the Beach Sessions where Reel Big Fish played their hearts out to an appreciative and very full Beach Bar.

Proceedings will be well underway tomorrow as we can look forward to seeing all surf and longboard finals taking place as well as the open bmx and skate on the mini and street course respectively in the Vans Summer Sessions.

Local boy Ben Skinner is hotly tipped after progressing to the semis and could find himself on the podium come the end of the day.
