RDC: We were shocked to learn today that one of the biggest dry Snow Board and Ski slopes in Europe has been consumed by fire. Report below by ESPN Action Sports and Planet Ski EU.

A dry slope ski area in England called Sheffield Ski Village burned down on Sunday, April 29, according to reports from England's South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue department. The ski area is where Winter X Games Ski Slopestyle medalist James Woods grew up skiing. "This is so sad. Sheffield Ski Village burnt down last night. I grew up here," wrote James Woods on Twitter.

Firefighters were called the scene around 1 a.m. Sunday, and arrived to find the main wood building on fire. Five fire engines were called to the scene. Nobody was injured in the blaze.

A second fire has happened at the ski slope and it is suspected it was deliberate. Last weekend the main building burnt down and the hut that controls the lift has now been destroyed by a blaze. Firefighters were called to the latest incident shortly after 5am on Tuesday morning. The wooden hut that controls the ski lift at the slope was alight and the South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said it may have been started deliberately.
At the weekend a major fire destroyed the main building and 25 firemen were at the scene at the height of the blaze.  3,000 litres of water a minute were being used. It happened in the early hours of the morning. A Snow+Rock shop in the main building was gutted.

It is not yet known if the slope area, that is almost 500m long, has been damaged.

A spokesperson for the Sheffield Ski Village said everyone involved in the slope was devastated by the fire. There is an email address for people who had bookings.

"We are saddened to report that Sheffield Ski Village is closed due to a fire. Customers should contact: vicky.lloyd@sheffieldskivillage.co.uk for information regarding bookings or any queries. We will endeavour to get in touch as soon as possible,"' said a statement from the centre.

In March 2011 the adventure playground at the slope was destroyed in a suspected arson attack.

Investigations are continuing.
