Hi

I very happy to announce the release of my first graphic AND shape
combination for Mob Skateboards -
the "Mob-O-Tov Cocktail" Park Cruiser
This is a big, fat cruiser board for hitting up your local concrete
park with some high speed cruising action, with plenty of space for
your drunken feet if all you're doing is skating to the pub. Perfect!

Also on the deck front, my first graphic for Mischief Skateboards is
also out. You can find it in Search & Destroy Skate Shop in Kreuzberg,
Berlin.

---------------------------------------------

Tomorrow I head off to the French part of Switzerland to set up my
first, and probably only, solo show of 2012 (the diary is already
booked up with group shows and a heck of a lot of graphic work for
skateboard companies!) "A Little Bit of What You Fancy Won't Do You No
Harm"

Opening party is Saturday, so come and check out a big selection of
drawings, prints, collage works, skateboards, paintings and zines.

Oh, and I've made three new screen prints with the gallery, which will
be available on their website for all of you not in Switzerland.

More info here: http://lagrille.ch

I'll also have some Human Bein paintings as part of a group show with
Urban Flowers Gallery in Munich. These are some of the last HB
paintings available, I won't be painting them again other than in the
street...

Check this attached flyer for all the details

That's it! You can go back to work now ;-)

Street Test

Eastpak
Getter 'Popout' Back Pack
From Their Urban Collection

Eastpak has kindly given us a backpack for our Street Test.

We have been putting our featured backpack through it's paces just recently and it has stood up remarkably well.

A few weeks back we hit a hotel with the Fauna Graphic Crew, splashed some paint on a wall with Danny KJ; hit the trails on the mountain bike and thoroughly mudded up the bag but with a cloth and some mild detergent it washed up a treat and was ready for a city coffee shop meeting with our decerning artist friends who always have positive things to say about it's vibrant colour scheme.

It has also been lugged about to numerous shows and exhibitions and has withstood dusty alleys, fence drops and general after dark activities... God that sounds ominous don't it! With it's brilliant yellow interior it is always easy to find that concealed cap or marker that you would normally only find in a standard dark interior backpack after you had dumped all the contents of the bag onto the floor first. You can fit 15 spray cans into the bowels of the bag and walk 2 miles to the next paint venue without any back prodding or discomfort.

As for skateboards, it holds a standard 8 inch with ease and will carry, we estimate, at least six Tech Decks safely. Super!

Tech Deck support!

Bam, Klame and Nate1
Edit: Montana Colours

Ok, so you know how it goes... You decide to meet up with some pals to go out an paint. You've already agreed on the spot and the time to meet. All that's missing is... "what do we do!?"
You throw out all other ideas, and decide to go with a "special space/tron scene" version. Well, thats what Bam, Klame, and Nate 1 did at Tony's Auto Body, Portrero & 17th (San Francisco) recently. Thank you guys!

thanks to Montana Colours for this post.

Flesh Cuts With Luci Westphal

This 1-minute video is only intended to give a quick impression of the East Side Gallery - an outdoor gallery of 105 official images painted on a 1.3 km section of the Berlin Wall in Friedrichshain.

If you want to look at an image for longer or read a slogan, just pause the video. Also I'll be uploading more images to my Flickr page soon.

The East Side Gallery was first created in 1990, shortly after the wall became open. Many of the pieces were restored in 2009 in time for the 20-year anniversary of the opening of the wall.

On the back side of the wall (facing the river Spree) graffiti artists have left their own unofficial mark.

As you can see from this video, I'm currently back in Berlin - but only for a short spell. Among other things I'm here to spend time with my family, mainly with my mother who is currently in Berlin as well and is featured walking through this video.

The NEW YORK PHOTO FESTIVAL INVITATIONAL

NYPH'12 is also pleased to announce a major new initiative this year: the New York Photo Festival Invitational. For the first time ever, submissions to the NYPH'12 Invitational will be reviewed and selected by the festival curators, each chairing a small jury of industry professionals specializing in each submission category. Selected submissions will be exhibited as part of the New York Photo Festival, from May 16-20, 2012. Top category submissions will be awarded prizes from the curator's voting and from the voting public.

The New York Photo Festival Invitational will provide a unique platform for artists and photographers to be exhibited in a festival of contemporary photography with an international reach, and be considered for curators' or viewers' choice. Multimedia projects will now be considered in their own new category.

Photographs and multimedia pieces may be submitted online at http://nyph.at/participate/ .

The New York Photo Festival will be expanding into other physical and virtual spaces around the globe this year and next; you can find our new announcements at http://nyph.at/.

JUXTAPOZ  Magazine - The San Francisco–based arts and culture journal Juxtapoz was founded in 1994 by painter Robert Williams as a response to the dominant critical aesthetic of the New York art scene, which he saw as favoring abstraction and Minimalism over representational forms of art. The magazine aligned itself with Surrealist traditions of figurative art, contemporary pop culture, and the "graphic tradition of EC comic books, psychedelic rock posters, sideshow freak banners, and Zap comics," giving voice to a generation of artists working in genres that were variously described as "Lowbrow" and "Pop Surrealist." - (MOMA review)

Off The Shelf

Art + Culture Magazine

March 2012

Our mouths are watering and our hands are clammy... we can't wait to find out what's going on in Juxtapoz Magazine this month!
Buildings like mountain outcrops, full of colourful graffiti, fields of urban wastelands painted with pure imagination, washes on gallery walls, like lakes of water full of depth and texture and with an air of quality that adds to it's contents; it's looking good... Oh crap, just get on will yeh!

Hittin the cover this month is Andrew Schoultz with Horse Projection - acrylic and ink on paper.
Numerous artists adorn the contents page this month, starting with:
Andrew Schoultz... massively influenced by skateboard artist Mark McKee and Milwaukee graffer Obi One.
Miranda July... has a thing about resting on carpets in uncomfortable positions and has just finished her second film.
Jeff Canham... he was the art director for Surf magazine between 2000 - 2005, sign painting has heavily influenced his artistic style.
Jen Stark... her work emulates nature, with it's multi-coloured, multi-layered intricate pieces of work that has been inspired by growing up around different cultures in Miami.
Donny Miller... wants to construct a sperm whale in a mall car park; has sculptured the many facets of Michael Jackson's nose over the years and likes getting punched in the face - it makes him feel alive... Bam!
DVS1... never shows his face, Jude Law is a fan.

and the rest which makes up the remainder of the mag includes Profiles, Pop Life, Reviews and some well trendy ads, it's defo a publication for all the elements.

Oh, on the back cover is a Converse graff wall from Barcelona.

Right, let's sneak a peek...

Desiring Uncertainty
Jee Hwang

Join Us For an Opening Reception With Jee Hwang

Thursday, February 23
6:30 - 8:30 PM
Exhibition through March 31

Jee Hwang's works are inspired by her vision of the body as a container related to desire, and its relationship to the state of presence and absence. Bottomless desire is continuously coming out or held together by various containers.

Jee's work spans from large scale oil paintings to small intimate watercolors and works on paper. Jee likes to begin each new body of work around a single concept and this time is no different. She beautifully depicts various symbolic 'containers' of desire in her works such as an antique bath tub, a wooden crate, and an unidentified bag. Like her works in general, the symbols are used in various ways to explore her inner self and reflect back our own nature.
