Opening night Sat 30th 6-8pm
SOLO SHOW
'Rhyme and Reason'
Rhyme and Reason is a series of drawings, paintings and sculptures based on nursery rhymes with a darker twist. Marie believes that nursery rhymes and fairytales gives her the opportunity to play with an accessible, already familiar narrative and then surprise her audience with a different interpretation. Marie thinks the narrative is an important quality in art; and the fairytales really lend themselves to her illustrative style and allow her to use quirky female characters.
SOLO SHOW
'Saints to $aints'
Jeremy Piert is an Adelaide based artist, who uses mixed media to create works that explore and question the themes of popular culture, consumerism and religion. His loose painterly pieces have been described as reflective and provoking with a melancholic undertone. He says "Today, the idea of brand loyalty does not seem unusual to us anymore. We believe that wearing a shirt may make us a better person, that certain shoes may make us run faster or be more attractive."
SOLO SHOW
'The Poison of the Honey Bee'
JME Pool currently lives and works in Brisbane and in 2010 she graduated with Distinction in the Master of Contermporary Art (Visual Art) at the University of Tasmania. Pool is known for creating works imbued with a gentle vulnerability. Her sometimes unsettling imagery evolves from a place that is neither adult nor childlike, where creatures of the night creep menacingly from the woods to threaten the viewers own subconscious memories.
