Off The Shelf

Yuko Shimizu
Publisher: Gestalten

We stumble across many burnt outs on our travels through the inner city and thought this one would make an ace back drop for this Yuko shoot.

A dazzling array of illustrations to feast one's eyes upon in this title. Mostly the characters are of Asian persuasion and there is a lot of influence from that continent on display, it's no wonder then that Yuko was born in Tokyo. She decided to go to New York and do an arts degree and never looked back.
With slightly risqué material, her art shone through and bagged her jobs with the Village Voice and the New York Times. Shimizu's media includes calligraphy brushes, india ink and water colour paper, her mostly female characters are tweaked on Photoshop before being disrobed for the world to see.

Not loads of writing but an eye ball marathon, this book is packed to the gunnels with fine quality illustration and use of vibrant colours.

Time to go behind the cover...
