Hang Outs... Victoria, Australia

Stabs
Lite works
FRIDAY 14th October

STABS steps in off the street for his debut solo show 'Lite works' at
Backwoods Gallery in October.
With a decade of stencil based street activity in Melbourne and abroad Stabs has held up to be one of Melbourne's most infamous street artists.
Stabs holds an attention to detail that commands respect, often dedicating a solid weeks work into the cutting of a single stencil alone. This committed work ethic along with his unique characters has gained him recognition and placed him amongst Australia's leading street artists.
Working out of Everfresh studio Stabs has developed his manic characters along with a paint and print practice that has multiple textures, diverse applications and embraces an ephemeral quality where by time and nature add to a desired street aesthetic.

Off The Shelf

Schwarz Auf Weiss Volume II
Author: Style Needs No Colour
Publisher: From Here To Fame

As you know we like to take our review books on journeys, with location shots in skateparks, old derelict buildings, someone's studio or an old workshop. None of the usual table set up with directive lighting for us, just the natural light that (if it's a quality publication) shows the title off in it's raw state! Also we like to put a hand or a foot in to give you a perspective of how big the book is.

With this book we thought we would give the back drop a bit of colour and texture, because as the title states Style Needs No Colour, and yeh know, it just maybe right!

Quote from the book:
"Style Needs No Colour works on the notion that excessive colours and flashy techniques should not be used to repair a weak foundation. It upholds the philosophy that artwork should be able to stand alone without unnecessary distractions and therefore SNNC artists restrict their palette to black and white."

The Style Needs No Colour artists are like-minded black and white illustrators who have their roots world wide and collaborate not only in publications like this but also shows, exhibitions, installations and street war comps.
They are a truly international B&W collective with quality sketches that will leave you wondering when Volume III will be out?

Let's split open the cover...

Keepin Up With... Phlegm

Stavanger, Norway for Nuart festival.

Phlegm transfers his sketchbook to a wall.
Most of the work was underground stuff, but he managed to get a mural on the side of a barn!

Keepin Up With... Dave The Chimp

Well well - wrote this about three weeks ago, but only just got around to taking the photos off my camera. So old news, but good news!

 -----------

So, Friday was the opening of the exhibition of our art residency blah-blah Natas Kaupas made a lecture during the residency, and the curator of the project kept telling me "Natas likes the project so much he's coming back for the opening" yeah yeah. what-ev-ahhh. So at the opening I'm asked "Did you see Natas?" of course I didn't, why the hell would someone fly half-way across the world for an exhibition opening!?!?
The next day the sun shone so we went to skate the bowl I built, as my friend East Eric was visiting and had yet to split his trousers (something he does every time he skates). About an hour or so into the session and up strolls Natas, all smiles like he's just passing by the beach! We skated with Natas Kaupas!!! Here's a photo of him doing what he does, on what I do! Yeah! He slammed pretty hard a few times, and I was a little worried I might be held responsible for killing a legend, but he survived the wobbly lip. When the light started to fade, Natas, Eric, my friend Pete and me went to eat, then cycled across town to Pete's house so he could tattoo one of my one-line drawings on Eric at the kitchen table. Then we drank shots of some dirty brown stuff, smoked some green stuff, then headed back out into the night to drink beer back at the bowl with the locals.

Just another Saturday night!

Greetings from Berlin

Lockdown Aftermath...

Westfield Centre, Derby...
Part 2: Goin Off

Things picked up at about 7.30pm as the Relentless Energy Drink started to flow, most people were well up for a good time, let the rush begin.

Two Seasons were at full pelt most of the night with their timed balance board challenge. The idea was to stay on without the board touching down as long as you could. First prize (6mins 50secs) won a classy longboard and to those who gave it a go, loads of goody bags.

Chickens, people in plastic bags and guys who re-aligned their gentlemen vegetables all got on the line, some did better than others.

Ash... thirsty but can't sit-down.

Aahh, that's better!

Dizzi, upside down and outside M&S

Grab a straw...

and drink up, Relentless goes down at any angle!

A rooster, nearly fell fowl...

Sarah shows us how it's done.

RD... zing shouda wore me sneekers.

Chickens wanna have fun too!

Two Seasons, timing on the balance board

Sweating buckets, but plastic means less wind resistance which means better technical skill... apparently?

Railed!

Ouch, I'll give that another go (said in a very high pitched voice).

That's what were talking about!

Dizzi feelin a bit dizzy..

Ben from 2S on the run from the line man.

Inflatible Relentless Tin, where did that come from?

Smile...

Look out for the 3rd and final post, which will include some video footage - out during the coming week.
