myFry:
Stephen Fry is an English actor, screenwriter, author, playwright, journalist, poet, comedian, television presenter and director.
This App instigated by Penguin Books publishing is a Fry autobiography with a twist. By using the circular graphic wheel you can pick from four categories - People, Subjects, Emotions, and 'Fryisms'. From these categories you can read what you like from the text, in any order you like. That means you don't read this book app like a regular book is supposed to be read... You choose the way!

Flesh Cut Fridays With Luci Westphal

Sanibel Island and adjoining Captiva Island are two gorgeous Gulf of Mexico islands in South Florida. Apparently Frommer's Travel Guide ranked Sanibel Island the #1 top tourist destination in 2011.

This week I went there to celebrate my birthday (one of those big ones) with Scott, Camille and John.

After a week-long drought, of course it had to be that weekend that a huge storm came through. So the beginning of the weekend turned out to be a little bit different than expected - but then there was a double-rainbow and the sun came back out.

In any case we saw plenty of the promised "15 miles of unspoiled beaches, 22 miles of bike paths, 50 types of fish, 230 types of birds, 250 types of shells and 0 stop lights".

As the grand finale (we were just about to drive to the airport) we even saw a wild alligator!

There's a lot missing in this video: from dancing into my birthday at midnight while keeping an eye on the surf and a lighting storm adding the appropriate light show to delicious birthday cakes at The Bubble Room + dinner at the Sunset Grill (yes, literally) and much in-between. This was definitely my best birthday (at least since my 4th when I got my first red bicycle).

It plan to post a longer version of this video on my other YouTube channel: youtube.com/LuciWest and photos on my Flickr.

The song is "Refill The Spill" by Jason Matherne. Yes, I've used this song before (twice even?). Please people, I need more music. 1-minute pieces are enough.

Off The Shelf

Art + Culture Magazine
May 2012

Life's good when Juxtapoz arrives on the doorstep and it has... Hooray!

This issue is full of the usual colour and vibrancy that we have come to expect. Also some of our UK friends have hit the pages like Phlegm on page 94 with his wicked black and white mural and Fauna Graphic on the rear cover for Converse shoes.

What up inside:
Steve Powers: hits Brooklyn, New York hard. Steve and the ICY Sign Crew have been camping out over the last six months and they have been working on their largest Public Arts Project yet!
Fame Festival: Murals the size of elephants in a small Italian town, featuring artists which included Ericailcane, Os Gemos, Artz and more...
JR: Keepin an Enduro Bike in his studio is sooo right!
Nuart: "I think most of us in this culture are actually quite reactionary; there is no subculture, there's only a prevailing culture".
Swoon: Another one of our favourites with her elegant and intricate paste ups.
Saber and Revok: 'No Faith in the Human Race'... can this be true?
Ron English: Using a jersey cow to get his message across.

Time to flick through the leaves...

big thanks to Derby University for the use of their studio for this shoot.

A Warning to Urban Explorers...

What's the Point?

Some of the team came across this mess yesterday as we checked out a spot to throw down some paint. It had us worried because in the next room was a bunch of young skaters shreddin it, undercover from the rain!

We don't wanna teach your granny how to suck eggs but just want to remind you that when you're out and about 'watch your step'... enough said.

Hang Outs... New York

The Hole is pleased to announce the first New York solo exhibition of pour paintings by Holton Rower. Filling all galleries at the Hole with nineteen enormous pours, Rower will present the variations in technique that produce wildly different effects. From the entrance to the gallery featuring small pours with “hats” as the artist calls them (wood protrusions on which the paint is poured and flows down); to the medium-sized works with hats, some of which flow onto the floor; to the rear gallery where large works both with and without hats feature “exclusions” (where the artist placed obstacles that the paint was forced to flow around then removed); to Gallery Three where he shows five tectonic pours: the variety and intensity of the exhibition is assured.

The Collective on Beer

Vedett the Belgium Beer Company got in touch and asked if we would like to appear on the back of their bottle labels. The idea is - while getting some fine brew down your neck you can call in on the RDC via your phone using the Scan Box App and stimulate your taste buds and visual senses at the same time... what a great idea eh!

We haven't seen any bottles yet but keep on the look out for us at your local pubs, bars, clubs and shops, they should be coming soon...

When we get our consignment of beer through, we will post um up for you to see... ☋

In the mean time,  to see us on their site... Go mad on the Bottle

App Appreciation

Little Games, Big Business

Thanks to Jen and his team for getting in touch.
In the recent past they developed a graphic which illustrates the rise in demand for mobile/cell gaming and how it is increasingly becoming a big business opportunity for designers and the industry.

They and we, would appreciate any feed back on the concept of this graphic please.
Email discussions to   theraddadcollective@gmail.com  ... thanks a bunch!

Help for Insa

MISSION TO LA....

I have a new mission and I WANT your help with please!

I am a strong believer in keeping art free, or more precisely making money to re-invest in art and not just for profit. And i am always trying to involve those that follow my work (YOU GUYS) in new projects. Some good examples of this are the SWAPSHOP from last year and the recent 'SELF REFLECTION' installation, where all the work was given away.

So now I have a new experiment and it relies on 12 people getting behind it and supporting the mission!

I have been invited to paint this building in downtown LA, in the heart of the Arts District.

I want to paint both sides to completely wrap the building in INSA love.

The awesome LA Freewalls are supplying all the materials and equipment, BUT i need to raise the basic costs of flights, car hire etc. I want to fly and paint next week!

Here is the mission: I want to see if I can raise all the funds for this trip and fly within the week- THIS WEEK! I could of course just pay for the flights myself or coincide it with another trip out there- but then that would be no fun.

So here is how I hope to raise the funds:

This last week I have produced 12 paintings on paper, below (50cm x 34cm each)- each unique but part of the series.

Because I don't want this just to be a fund raiser but a great deal for the 12 awesome people that support this, I am pricing these at just £150 each!!! Much cheaper than the usual price of a hand painted original!

And NOT ONLY that, perhaps more importantly the supporters will get:

- their names painted on the final LA wall as a thank you
- a photo of their name and a hand written thank you letter for their support.
- a goodie bag with t-shirt, postcards and stickers

Not bad huh?!?!

To make this opportunity to get involved open to all the sale will go live at 4.00pm GTM (UK time) Monday 23rd April. First come first severed (please email with any queries)

GOOD LUCK AND THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR HELPING MAKE THIS PUBLIC MURAL POSSIBLE

As I said this is a total experiment and a bit of a challenge and maybe no one will be interested or want to get involved... so lets see how it goes....

Love
INSA
