Hey folks,

I hope everyone is having a great 2012 so far. Well, it's my first update of the year and I wanted to let you know about a couple of things happening:

Firstly, I've donated a new painting to the upcoming charity auction at White Walls Gallery, San Francisco on February 18th for the Oceanic Awareness Collaboration. It's looking set to be a killer evening with a bunch of awesome artists lined up and the chance to snag some great art and make a difference to a very worthwhile cause. Secondly, I've just finished and shipped some all-new work for the show at C.A.V.E. Gallery in Los Angeles next month. I'll be showing alongside Christopher Cuseo and John Park at the show which opens March 10th. I'll be there for the opening, so if you get the chance please come and say hi!

I'll also be running a competition with the chance to win some original artwork in the run up to the show. I'm still working on it but will email with details on how to enter, along with info on the show itself soon.

Catchin Up With Fauna and Rocket

Sheffield, UK Bound... Part 3

Fauna Graphic and Rocket gave us a shout a couple of weeks ago to ask if the Collective Team would like to check up on some spots they had been working on over the last few months. And of course we didn't have be asked twice, we climbed into our tatties and armed our bags with a few cameras and cans.

Then we hit the transport to Sheffield...

Meeting at their studio, with a cup off coffee and chat later we found ourselves clambering into a multi-storied building which had been abandoned for sometime. It was out of the cold blast of wind and rain which is the UK winter and had a combo of cozy yet eerie feeling to it's derelict interior.

It had some ace wall space to bomb and while Rocket and Fauna were unpacking cans and caps we had a wander around and this is what we saw...

Flesh Cut Fridays With Luci Westphal

On my first trip to Asia I'm visiting my friend Jessica in Chiang Mai, a lovely city in the North of Thailand - full of temples, monks, street food, flowers and all kinds of different motor vehicles.

From Chiang Mai I also took a day trip up to the top of Doi Inthanon, the highest peak of Thailand - where I saw waterfalls, a hill tribe village (purchased handmade scarf for the cold winter I'll return to too soon), memorials to an old king and temples for the current king and queen.

While here I was also able to screen All God's Children and record an interview for Five Sisters. About both I would like to write more at another time.

I've already spent too much of this cherished time in Thailand editing this video, so I'll skip a longer description and head back out to enjoy Chiang Mai some more before leaving for the beach and Bangkok tomorrow.

I’m doing a fun little event at the Montana (spray paint) store in Echo Park (L.A.) on Saturday. I worked with the 33third/Montana guys when I did my mural at The Standard (they made a rad video of me doing the mural, see below). Since the mural will only be up for a limited amount of time, I think it’s a nice opportunity to work with them again, and release a little print kinda based on that mural. We’ve also got the good ol’ Hit + Run crew coming to print some tshirts and hoodies, LIVE!

We were a bit shocked when we poked our head around the door of the new Notts skate shop Forty Two, to find the owner was a friend of our's from way back, Rob J.

Rob Johnson and Scott Underdown started up this shop as a join venture only a few months ago, but have already made a name for itself on the on the high street of this cosmo-city.

With products from some of our favourite skate companies like Girl, Chocolate, enjoi, Alien Workshop, Blueprint and tons more. It looks like it's worth a call-in to see what's on offer...

The Skateistan project—started by two Australian aid workers who began giving skating as well as educational lessons to more than 350 kids in Kabul, Afghanistan—equips young men and women with the skills to lead their communities toward social change and development and piqued von Einsiedel's interest enough to make him want to capture it with a camera. Flying directly from Frankfurt to Kabul, von Einsiedel and crew sought to create a more optimistic image of Afghanistan. What resulted is a beautifully composed film that turns a spotlight on neither the battles nor the victims in this war-torn country, but rather on the hopeful spirit and culture of change that the youth of Kabul are yearning to put into action. After chatting with Nathalie van den Bergh via email a few weeks ago, we were thrilled to finally meet up and have a chat about her ace new designer product!

RDC: Hey Nathalie, it's a pleasure to meet you, tell us where you are from and where you live now please?

Hey Wayne, thanks a lot for having me. As you know, I'm German. For 9 years now I live in Cologne, but before I've been a bit around Germany having lived in Düsseldorf, Berlin and Hamburg.

RDC: Could you tell us about yourself, we understand you are in the television industry and have you got any artistic training?

That's right. I'm working at Germany's largest private Broadcast Network for a news Channel. I work there as technical engineer in different roles: Mainly transmitting technology officer, floor manager and live director and coordinator for live news casts. So professionally I've got a strong technological focus. Whereas originally I started out as graphic designer and later media designer focusing on film making. While money and security are pretty good in my current job my creative mind gets a bit neglected. But luckily my job leaves enough room to constantly think something up and making it real.

RDC: You have started a business just recently using your interest in fabrics, art and design to come up with something new. Tell us about the venture?

It all started out just for fun: My sister needed a new hat because hers got blown away. I installed my old sewing machine and began working on what later became my current baby. Like babies do, it took almost nine month to actually develop into the current form with all its details. The premier of it was at a fashion show in last years august. Since then the whole thing constantly grows and I can say that I'm in business.

Although I have to say that I was quite taken aback at how long it took me to make the whole my hat a product that I was actually completely satisfied with. Not to speak of the whole administrative and legal stuff involved in setting up a business in Germany. If I had known what was ahead of me when I started the whole thing, I definitely wouldn't have done it. It was only because I already had gone so far that I pushed on.

On the other hand the development was truly rewarding. To see the whole thing evolve was incredible. Getting in touch with textile dealers all over europe or take the cord stoppers. These cord stoppers have been developed and produced for me and only me. Can you imagine that? Cheers out to my cord stopper producers, I love you guys, you make my cords complete.

RDC: The inspiration for your colour patterns and designs, where do they come from?

I have no recipe for that. I just let my sublime sense for style rule...just kidding. In fact I'm partly limited to what is on the market. You have to have a keen out for special designs and visit every fabric fair that's on. I'm still looking for the perfect way to get what I really want, but I think I'm doing too bad up to now. What I don't want is using prints, I know that.

RDC: Random question, are you a cat liker or a dog person?

RDC: What stores are you currently selling your hoodies in?

MY label and website is called neonbeige Ehrenfeld, you can have a look there. Ehrenfeld is a small district of cologne which has a lighthouse, also the English translation of Ehren is honour, so it means honour field. I really like that!

There are two stores selling my stuff at the moment. One in Germany - Cologne and one in Austria – Vienna. There are a number of shops in Berlin and even UK whom I am currently talking with. We'll see how that turns out. Due to other major projects of mine I didn't not have a lot of time to promote properly...and of course fill up my stocks first. And of course there is always the web shop, which will soon be available in English. Although it's quite easy “Kaufen” means “Buy” and the rest is quite self-explanatory.

RDC: Have you got any fashion shows or exhibitions coming up in the future?

If there's something on, I always try to take part. There were a lot of very interesting local designer shows and fairs last year before Christmas. Right now there seems to be a bit of a slack.

I'd really love to present my stuff in UK. You might have a demand for my kind of product who knows. I'll definitely keep you informed when I'm around.

RDC: It's been great meeting you Nathalie, all the best on your new venture.

We caught up with Rosie while she was installing her month long show at the Alley Cafe.
And here's what she had to say...

RDC: Tell us where you're from Rosie?

Originally I’m from Portsmouth, but I moved up here to Nottingham in 2003 for University and then didn’t leave!

RDC: What media do you use and what have you experimented with in the past?

Predominantly, as an independent artist I work with textiles, working with embroidery, appliqué, batik and other constructive textiles. I also crochet a lot and knit! I usually start with drawing though, and the work kind of takes its own direction in terms of media form there.I work as a community artist across lots of different media though, from painting and drawing to puppet making. Textiles is my personal passion though.

RDC: Are you self-taught?

Half and half really. I went to Art College, and did Theatre Design at Uni and picked up some skills like pattern cutting and using industrial sewing machines, however most of what I do I have learnt as I have gone along. I get really excited about trying new things – I just decide what I want to do next and go and find out how to do it!

RDC: Where does the inspiration for your work come from and does living in Nottingham help with that?

It’s quite an eclectic mix really. I’m inspired by the arts and crafts movement – and the idea of master crafts person, textiles from history, and from around the world. I’m looking a lot at Eastern European Folk textiles at the moment. I like anything that you can touch, and generally I work in quite a multi sensory way.I love colour, I have a funny synaesthesia thing where I can smell and feel colour so that has quite a strong influence on my work. I’ve only just worked out that not everyone does this, so I’m in the process of exploring that in my work at the moment. Nottingham is great for the arts I think. There’s always a lot going on to get involved in and exhibit at. I am one of the artists that works on Nottingham Light Night every year, both as an independent and a community artist. The textiles history to Nottingham is really interesting, and a series of lanterns I made for Light Night 2010 was based on old Nottingham lace designs.

RDC: What is your affiliation with the Alley Cafe and what impact do you think they have on the local arts scene?

I have been coming to the Alley Cafe since I was at Uni, and have got to know the lovely staff over the years. It’s such a lovely, welcoming venue and you’re always guaranteed great food and company. They are really up for new ideas, and they put a lot of positive energy into making the cafe a creative, energetic space. The opportunity to exhibit your work there for a month is great. It can be hard to find exhibitions which allow you to put up a series of work, so this is an opportunity to do so and see how people respond to it. I also run a group there on a Wednesday night from 7-9 where people can learn to knit and crochet. It is an extension of a community project which I am working on to do yarn bomb in market square next year, and the owners were really proactive in helping me to set the group up there.

RDC: Your ideal mode of transport would be?

The pea car from the Birdseye adverts about frozen peas! Although I do already have a beautiful purple Nissan Micra called Peggy Sue who is pretty ideal!

RDC: Ha ha, nice one!

RDC: Have you got any more shows coming up?

On June the 19th I’m going to be doing a yarn bomb in Market Square for the Cultural Olympiad. I’ve worked with over 300 people from Nottingham collecting their crochet and teaching them how to do it to cover as much of the square as I can! The work I’m showing at the cafe is a relatively new series, so I’m currently looking for exhibitions to apply for that might fit, but also exploring ways in which I can develop it before I exhibit it again.

Spring Arrived Early

Although the weather is slightly holding back some spray painting action, It has not stopped me too much..Over December I have been working closely with international art company Windsor and Newton,
On a special top secret product, which has finally had exposure in a recent launch in Germany. I have been testing a brand new spray paint product, officially under the liquitex range. Its up my street, as its non-toxic and water based..its extremely versatile to use and will be officially released in America within the next month and in June 2012 for the UK.

I have been commissioned to create 2 murals at the Windsor and Newton Liquitex headquarters, as well as a large canvas for their launch in Germany.
I will be releasing more posts in my new blog about this in the coming days, With images of all the recent artwork i have created for them.

Recent Happenings

Jan 2012: After finishing artworks for Windsor And Newton, I showcased the canvas at the PUB SCRAWL event which Mckee Gallery organised in Sheffield... It was a big hit and you may have noticed it on BBC news.. Everyone had a great time, there was 10 different artists featuring work in 10 locations. I had my own venue at the Frog and Parrot which was again very successful, and sold lots of prints over the course of the evening and also donated some to Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity . Keep tuned for the blog post on the full event and also watch out for an exhibition The Mckee Gallery will be holding featuring Pub Scrawl Stay tuned for updates here

Sept-Nov 2011: Autumn was extremely busy, Both myself and Rocket01 have been tied up in some extremely fun projects.. One of which was a exciting commission off Converse in November, I painted the largest Bird i have ever painted in my life ! on a 27 meter high wall in central Manchester Which also turned out to be the largest mural ever painted in Manchester, and possibly even in Yorkshire or the North! it was Great fun and Converse made a fun video of the process of the wall..! you can read all about it and watch the video here :

The Art of Todd Bratrud

Who the hell is Todd Bratrud??

If you are not into skating then you may not have ventured your eyes across his work. Todd's deck graphics are legendary and working with companies like Flip, Consolidated, Landscape, Creature, enjoi, Death and Skateboard Magazine... it's no wonder! He seems to have a knack of making illustrations look gruesome, with his cannibal babies, killer jet skis, horses with bellies slashed open with things living inside and fingers being severed by scissors (amongst other things).

A quote by Chris Nieratko about the man:
"It's a crying shame when a talented guy makes his living creating skateboard graphics and then gets pigeonholed as a"skate artist."I love skateboarding but I think there are some talents in skating that are bigger than us, that belong to the world. The usual suspects come to mind for all of us: Templeton, Gonz, Campbell, Blender, Bratrud."

Teeth cleaned, garbage out, dishes washed, dog walked and moby/cell phone off - no more distractions for a couple of hours, just enough time to snuggle up with the new Juxtapoz magazine and have a good gander!

Packed to the gunnels with arty goodness, this issue lights up like a beacon of reddy redness to attract the weariest of folk to it's warm inviting cover and... 'whaaat, dang just get on with it will yeh!!'

Ok then...

Jeremy Geddes heads up this month's cover illustration, his realistic yet surreal style with fine art skills thrown in. Brilliant control of space and time continuum, we thinks!

Another featured artist is one of our favs Ed Templeton, with his almost naive yet meaningful designs that turn up on skateboard graphics, canvases and gallery walls at an extraordinary rate these days and so they should!

We hear you ask... 'what the hell's on the contents page already?'

Jeremy Geddes of course... he paints for 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, a single painting can take up to 6 months to finish.

Ed Templeton of course... he married his wife Deanna at the ripe ol age of 19 and is a wicked aim with a slingshot, especially from a moving van.

Interesni Kazki... in Ukraine means interesting fairy tales.

Laurie Lipton... when younger, while other children were drawing flowers and bunnies, she was drawing bodies being blown up in wars and Cowboys and Indians mutilating each other... umm Nice?

Esther Pearl Watson... last summer she drew 100 pages a week for her third Unlovable comic anthology.

Modern Multiples... in the right mind set he would go up to a Casino Roulette wheel and say"everything on black".

Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn founded in 1838 is a historic landmark. It honors several famous or otherwise important people and served as Brooklyn's public park before the creation of Prospect Park.

The cemetery is located somewhere between the neighborhoods Park Slope, Windsor Terrace and Sunset Park - yet in recent years (as I've heard the story) got its own neighborhood name by a clever real estate agent: Greenwood Heights.

It's an incredible cemetery that is very worth the visit for anyone who enjoys such outings. Beautiful statues and trees, so many tombstones, mauseleums and statues telling stories and honoring the individuals and groups (e.g., from the American Revolution, in particular The Battle of Brooklyn). There are hills and lakes and views of Manhattan, Brooklyn and even New Jersey. You can discover so many things: like the Altar to Liberty, which features a statue with a Roman helmet waving back at the Statue of Liberty in the distance. I took photos of that greeting that I will post on Flickr, because there was not enough room in the video.

I did find room to show the resting places for Jean-Michel Basquiat and Leondard Bernstein.

What was nearly impossible for me to capture were the Monk Parakeets that live high up in the main entrance.

Ana Bagayan

'There Is Time To Kill Today' will showcase new paintings, drawings and the debut of a new series of charcoal works on canvas from artist Ana Bagayan The exhibit will also feature the release of a new giclee print edition (details to follow next week).

Ana Bagayan was born in the Armenian capital of Yerevan. She studied painting at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Her work explores images of adolescence as metaphors for larger themes of ethos and wonder and has been featured in such publications as Rollingstone, Spin, GQ and various others. She currently lives and works in Burbank, California.

Ana talks a lil' about the show... "Although theres no unifying theme to this show, the inspiration for the work comes from the metaphysical-ghosts, spirits, intergalactic space creatures, anything that hints at the idea that we are just a small part of the unimaginably vast universe. Some of the works are based on hypnosis sessions of people who believed they had been abducted by aliens. I've created human/alien hybrid creatures based on the experiences these people described. All of the works, I feel incorporate the inherent beauty of interpreting both the known and unknown."

Liz Brizzi

A native of France, born of Italian parents, Liz Brizzi grew up in Los Angeles. Inspired by urban themes, she loves to portray the beauty she captures in the raw, desolate and industrial aspects of cities and their outskirts. Her unique mixed media technique begins with the manipulation of her original photography collaged onto acrylic painted wood panels, finally blended within layers of colorful acrylic washes. She began this series of works with landscape paintings of the streets and alleys of Downtown L.A. A city that is currently changing and developing rapidly, her artwork captured its authenticity and some of the disappearing traces of its History. Her more current work is less lifelike, as she utilizes various architectural details found in her photos to create more complex graphics, structures and imaginary landscapes, while using shapes reminiscent of street art found in the very same cities she photographs.

Liz graduated in 2002 from Otis Art Institute with a BFA in Illustration and now works as a graphic artist from her studio in Downtown Los Angeles.

Superman makes an appearance on the front thanks to the illustrator 'Seen' aka Rich Mirando. Although he didn't pioneer the graffiti movement he is often referred to as the 'Godfather of Graffiti'. Born in the Bronx in 1961 and turning his hand to spray, brush and tattoo ink.

On February 3rd, we'll be celebrating the opening reception for "The Primrose Path", a show featuring new works by Juan Muniz and I. This will be my first major exhibition in Las Vegas Nevada, and to commemorate event we'll be giving away to the first twenty guests a set of limited edition prints. Both artists will be in attendence, so please come out and say 'hi'.

On top of this, I've got works in three other group shows. One being an "[Adult Swim]" themed group show hosted by Gallery 1988 Melorse, and the others being Chinese Zodiac themed shows (to compliment the coming of Chinese NewYear) at the New York based Myplasticheart and Los Angeles' Giant Robot.

Done and Dusted

Pete McKee Presents... Pub Scrawl 2012

The event was a massive success, the pubs the artists and the punters all had a great night. But the event wouldn't have happened at all if it wasn't for the tireless work of my team, Chris, Charley and Hannah, who between them made sure everything ran smoothly. They had been working on organising pub scrawl since October and the running of the night it's self was a logistical wonder, making sure the tour of 150 people managed to get around all pubs and see all the artists work.

We also had some great volunteers who helped on the night and without their support we could not have pulled it off.

Thornbridge brewery need a special mention as they donated some well needed cash for the artists to enable them to help fund their projects. And finally I have to thank the Artists and the Bars without who's cooperation and enthusiasm there wouldn't have been a Pub Scrawl.

Thanks to everyone who attended Pub Scrawl and enjoyed a night of culture and cultured drinking.

Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens hosted the World Fair in 1939/40 and 1964/65 and still features several iconic and slightly extraterrestrial seeming structures left from those fairs. Among them are the unisphere, the observation towers and several pavilions.

This park is also the home of the US Open Tennis Tournament and the Mets baseball team and several museums. But I focused on the cool spacey structures.

I'd like to add that I had been wanting to check out these cool structures for over 10 years and that I finally did this on a day when it was -5 degrees Celsius (23 degrees Fahrenheit) just so I could make a video for this series that I hope will live up to the popular DUMBO video I made last week.

Also my partner Scott Solary happened to be shooting footage for a sizzle reel for the new YouTube channel Network A, which launched this week. Just by chance it worked out that one of my shots ended up in that video (but not in mine).

This video finally seemed to be the perfect match for the song "Phantom Power" by Jason Matherne of GoonyGooGoo Productions.

Again, I will post a few extra photos on my Flickr account in a few days.

The Art Of Tomer Hanuka

The artist Tomer Hanuka was born in Israel and is now based in New York City.

He is an illustrator and cartoonist who works with ad agencies, publishers and film studios from around the world. With clients which include big names like Nike, Microsoft, DC Comics and The New Yorker.

About the Book:

Very little writing in this title as Hanuka tends to let his art do the talking.

His pictures speak a thousand words and they are screaming out acts of:
bullying, sexuality, critique, gruesomeness, erotica, brutality, insanity, survival, war, holocaust, zombies, irony and orgies.

So don't let the placid pink cover fool you, when you venture into this book it is like venturing into some of your worst nightmares. Some of the nicer illustrations have idillic countryside settings but always with harrowing undertones.

Hanuka is a gold medal winner from both the Society of Illustrators and the Society of Publication Designers.

He also won the British Design Museums Award for Penguin Classic Books Deluxe Edition in 2008.

A true eye opener for us and a credit to the skill and unique talent of this featured artist.

Not a lot more we can say really, time to let the publication do the talkin...

New Mural at The Standard

Sweet!!!

I just painted the wall outside of The Standard Hotel (Downtown LA)!

I first worked with The Standard back in 2006 I believe, when I did an installation at the Hollywood location. They didn’t have this wall Downtown back then. Anyway, I drew a little sketch, packed up my trusty Scion xB, called Tim to come down and help me, called Dan from 33third to do video (33third.com sells spray paint, and you’ll get 10% off your order by entering code BUFFMONSTER).

I called some friends in the media, and got to work. I spent two days working on the wall and I’m really happy with how it turned out. My dad, who is facing 24 years in federal prison, even came by to help paint (More on my dad, and progress photos of the wall, on Rob’s post on The Hundreds). The Standard even made a signature Buff Monster dessert which will be on the menu until my wall comes down (towards the end of Feb).

We're delighted to invite you to the Private View for our first show of 2012, featuring the work of Guy Denning and Frank Rannou. Guy's stunning work is well known to fans of the gallery. We also have great pleasure in introducing the French artist, Frank Rannou's work to London audiences. Guy and Frank have become firm friends and fans of each others work. It will be fascinating to see their work shown together for the first time in a two man show.

In addition, for those who attend the Private View there will be a superb opportunity to win one of the beautiful preparatory sketches for the show by Guy Denning. D.U.M.B.O. (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) is a Brooklyn waterfront neighborhood underneath the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges.

When I moved to New York in the late 90s it was still a raw and affordable neighborhood not yet zoned for residential apartments. Back then it was full of artist's studios and illegal lofts with amazing views of Manhattan and the bridges, with charming cobble stone, lots of garbage trucks, underground parties and always the noise of the subway crossing the Manhattan Bridge.

Some of my earliest memories of living in New York City are visits to the DUMBO studio of our old friend and gifted painter Scott Sanders - and be inspired by him and the other artists and the view from the rooftop of the alluring, sparkling metropolis across the river: I felt that I had arrived in the city of my dreams.

Of course, developers, city planners and people with larger incomes figured out eventually what a pearl lay across the river just one subway stop away. Condos went up, art studios were replaced by legal apartments and stores and offices moved into the neighborhood.

While I miss the raw atmosphere of the older days (and those rooftop parties), I do appreciate how a lot of the beauty is being restored and preserved and that I can now get my favorite hot chocolate from Jacques Torres when I walk around one of the windiest (and thus coldest) corners of New York.

Unfortunately, the Brooklyn Bridge is currently still under construction, which takes away from a lot of otherwise more stunning images. Also unfortunately, a minute is just too short. A lot of material didn't make it into the video - but I tried to include some iconic images and activities typical for this place, including the photo shoots at Brooklyn Bridge Park.

While I was walking around filming, someone approached me and showed me very cool pictures of a historic DUMBO from the website BrooklynPix.

The song featured is called "Animal Horn" and was written and performed by Jason Matherne of Goonygoogoo Productions.

Influenced by graffiti, science fiction, horror, and urban life, a definite darkness prevails in each of the artists' surreal work, alleviated by the contrast of vibrant playful colors. Be prepared for technicolor nightmares, neon mysteries, and candy coated abominations.

Hera - she started graffin in her teens, with tags to begin with. She exclaims, "spray-can painting is like dancing not like sitting on a chair at a desk, solving math problems."

Akut - he started in a crew called 'Maclaim' which soon established itself with their own distinctive style.

Herakut - The two met up and shared a wall straight away, a great beginning to a truly gifted couple!

Every New Year's Eve that we are in Brooklyn, we follow certain traditions - collecting a few new ones as they are discovered. Without any pressure of "we are having a party" it's always "come and join at any point if you like".

So when we were back in Brooklyn this year, we celebrated our mix of German and American Silvester (New Year's Eve) traditions:

Drinks (new addition: Alex' German Bowle)
Spilled Drinks (it can't be helped)
"Dinner For One" (short film, which has become European NYE tradition not only due to the famous dialogue: Same procedure as last year? - Same procedure as every year, James.)
Walking to Prospect Park (this time we even managed to not lose anyone and meet more friends in the park!)
Fireworks (you haven't seen anything yet, until you've been to fireworks almost right above your head, not in the distance)
Berliner (hot donuts, this time heated up a bit too much - ouch)
Dancing until the wee hours...

I honestly don't know a better way to start the new year than to dance with my friends! Thanks everyone!!!

The monotony of modern American life can bog us down and cause us to lose sight of what matters. When we become preoccupied with trivial things that are ultimately worthless we are capable of forgetting those things that really matter in life. In this series of paintings, Brendan Tierney explores the moment of epiphany that we as human beings are sometimes fortunate to experience, when we are, if only momentarily, liberated from the mental and emotional confines of mediocrity and meaninglessness, free to see and experience the very real existence of love, beauty, and joy. In these depictions, he creates a sensation of elevation, of being lifted up above one's day to day circumstance and surroundings, attaining a higher perspective and understanding of the "big picture" Visually expressing this profound experience is is quite a lofty ambition that for Tierney serves as a way to remind himself to stay in a place of love and gratitude. To him, this artwork serves as an opportunity to have a positive impact in a person's life.

Street Test... Eastpak 'Getter'

Eastpak has kindly given us a backpack for our Street Test Feature.

And the saga continues...

We have had some pretty criminal weather just recently, plenty of downpours with a bitta snow thrown in for good measure. That means soggy ground and a mud bath out on the trails. So it's no surprise that we were mucked up to the 'Getter' on the photo shoot yesterday, even though the sun was out and the birds were singing the joys of spring.

It felt real good on the back and on some of the long up-hill pulls that we had to do to get to the intended shoot area, the bag didn't stress out the shoulders at all (the S and chest straps spread the load to take the stress off your upper arms on a long ride)!

As for visiting friends and artists at galleries - we discovered an almost attractive disdain towards the bag. Someone remarked, "Shit, that's loud" and eventually "I quite like it, it's growing on me" an attitude which seems to follow us wherever we went.

Looks like a big thumbs up to Eastpak so far...

More Testing to come, keep um peeled!
